Vikid Truth and The Holy Grail

The Truth is an elusive concept. There had been many times in Vikid’s life when he thought he had found it — such is the confidence of young men. Like Indiana, he went on many adventures, only to find that the Holy Grail he sought served him sand, not everlasting life.

Vikid was not a particularly smart hero. He had tried to read The Iliad by Homer several times. It always started with the best of intentions: he would begin, get a few chapters in, realize he was completely lost, and then lose interest as some other shiny object took his attention.

He couldn’t remember the names of all the characters, or figure out which god was who, who had which kid, etc., etc…

Let’s be honest, we all kind of know what they are going to say. Like books on health and fitness, they all say the same things wrapped in different covers. Eat fresh, real foods, limit carbs, respect nutrient density, exercise for endorphins, avoid injuries, maintain perfect form, rest, etc…

Casandra was a princesses of Troy, and Apollo, son of Zeus, had his eye on her. He promised her the gift of prophesy on the condition she would join him and get jiggy with it.

But thinking she was smart, she scorned him after receiving the gift. Apollo, being a God, had his own little tricks however. On learning of the deception, modified the agreement by just a little bit. He added an addendum… that while she kept her powers to see into the future, unfortunately nobody would ever believe her.

Vikid felt lost, each day felt like a trek through nebulous clouds of doubt, with no orientation and no semblance of a final destination.

He wondered aimlessly, tending to the most basic requirements, his children, his family and business interests within arms reach.

He tried to read but his attention was waning, he tried to talk to people but communication was inconsequential. When people can’t hear what you are saying, either directly or through metaphor, it is because you are at a non-resonant frequency. Your speech is like the ghostly rain of neutrinos, unapprehensible to the whole Earth.

Certain dates get etched into our memories, Oct 7 is now one of them. It’s the date Eli Sharabi was abducted and taken hostage by Hamas terrorists into Gaza.

This book documents Eli’s journey from that day till his negotiated release.

It’s a story about survival under the most horrifying of circumstances. It’s about how one can dig deep to keep their senses under extreme pressure. It’s about true psychology, when all the theory is stripped of it’s academic scaffolding.

The Last Girl

The Iran War was a wake up call.

It was also a reminder to Vikid, that he had a sense of premonition. 3 months before each world changing event, he would grow weak with a looming depression. He told people about it, but they couldn’t understand, he always knew when something was cooking up. It happened with Covid, this time was no different.

It was also a form of recalibration and a separator of wheat & chaff. You got to see human behaviour when affronted with real danger. You got to understand who were friends, who were selfless and who would do anything to survive.

The Hard Problem

Vikid was a smart man so he decided to embark on a simple investigation. He wanted to learn about the color Red.

He learnt that it was considered a Primary Color. Much like Prime Numbers in mathematics, any color whatsoever could be made using three Primary Colors at different intensities.

Though this made him feel smarter and was very useful information, the problem was it didn’t tell him anything about Red itself, only how to make other colors using Red.

I think that’s why we watch TV, it’s why we listen to podcasts. It’s why we read books.

Its also why we listen to music.

Because the world is noisy.

I first truly started to understand this after spending couple of weeks in Hawaii almost 10 years go. Then getting a gentle reminder to the fact here and there along the way.

The noise I am talking about isn’t exactly to do with sound. More accurately, it’s to do with a certain kind of vibration. Specifically the hum generated by electrical cables & equipment.

How do you convince a general audience to get out there, part with money, time and effort without telling them what it’s for?

No plot give aways, no setting of the stage, no premise, nada…

Just a simple, get out there, buy this book and read it.

Well, Vikid shall try…

For a start, for those concerned about the mechanics of reading, this book is not too long. Some two cent odd pages in a reasonable font with reasonable line spacing. If you passed through school, you should be fine. If you haven’t read in years, all the better, this a good one to start on. It’s in the Goldilocks zone.

As the years pass each one bleeds into the other until there is nothing left other than the continuous present.

I have lost all sense of time. The future feels compressed, as though it has already passed, the past is not even a memory, it feels like something open, that my actions today change what actually happened years before.

2025 has seen the return of Vikid into the world of computing. There were days I was so lost in code that I forgot where or when I was. When people spoke to me it was as if they were someone interrupting a deep dream. A dream within dreams, Vikid was a character from the film. A character playing a character.

Vikid was having trouble sleeping. It didn’t help that he was overdosing on Espressos throughout the day. The solution seemed simple.

Stop the espressos, meditate a little, do some exercise and eat well.

Sometimes Vikid found it hard to write. Words are a medium and all mediums have their limitation. For example he could talk about redness but there was no red in the words. For the reader to understand what he was saying, they would have had to have the experience at least once before.

And what of Love?

What of pure consciousness?

Uncluttered by thought.

In matters of the spirit, we call it faith. To enshrine your soul into some belief that you can’t justify any other way. For many it is the anchor that keeps them moored to the coastline of sanity. Without faith, they fear they will capsize into murky depths and take society with it.

A Loss for Words

Vikid was staring into a white page. Fear wrapped around his being, a lack of expression, a loss for words. Writers block.

It was like a nebula of depression had engulfed him. Nothing to say, a grey amorphous cloud… yet inside, he was a shaken up can of coke, bubbling with pent up desperation, a broken ring on the pull-tab, unable to open.

He sat beside the bath tub, guitar in hand and an old tune he forgot found its way through muscle memory onto the woven spiral of half oxidized strings, but the words to the song were missing. It was something about a butterfly opening up, the flower of the heart unfolding. An old Icelandic friend had taught it to him once in what seemed a different era. They had played guitar late into the night when words were freer flowing.

Easy Pickings

When you’ve read a few thousand books and scoured the internet daily for 20 years, it becomes genuinely difficult to find new ideas.

There are still some options, but the easy pickings seem far between.

Option 1 - Go deeper in.

Perhaps you’ve heard of Lagrangian Dynamics or the Calculus of Variations. Well one could dive right in to figure how it works in detail. The intuition of it however, is not so difficult. Or perhaps, you’ve heard about the microprocessor. Well, there is enough information out there to figure it out. In the case of microprocessors, Vikid realized, it was more like finding the Wizard of Oz, a silly man pulling some levers and flipping some switches. It popped his balloon to realize all of computing was essentially flipping switches.

Digging Holes

Deep in the Desert under the flowing lava of a red hot sun, people work. They labour in a blazing oven slapped around by abrasive winds, where a sandy terrain caves in as if to swallow you into its jaws like furnace.

It was Vikid’s pleasure or curse depending on however you looked at it, to lead these men, to motivate them and to ensure their good health while getting maximum productivity out of their every drop of sweat.

The Objective

Vikid hated it when people talked about “Western” and “Eastern” thought. Those huge expansive blobs and catch all that stemmed from the 19th Century Oriental projects.

But then he thought better of it. All discourse was based on some juxtaposition, the need for contrast without which we couldn’t distinguish a bowl of warm water from a thick creamy soup.

Where contrast couldn’t be found naturally, we created it artificially. That was the biggest contradiction in the Equity program. The further you tried to equalize people (especially by force or ideology) the more they would themselves react to maintain their differences, in one way or the other.

Spell Breaker

It was an art. He now understood the practice of meditation. He had abandoned it for many years as he had misunderstood what he was doing. Ah! The texts (and gurus) will mislead you, not out of spite, they just don’t know what they’re doing. They don’t know why either.

Vikid was in the mountains. A wet fog had descended into the valley, cloaking its inhabitants in a light rain. The air was still with intermittent spells of exquisite freshness. All was quiet except for the occasional drips of water from the windowsill, a flutter of feathers and the rustle of leaves in ancient conversations with each other.

The Ontology of the Unhuman

Vikid was a monster, voracious with the written word. He had consumed everything in sight and then some.

But once in a while something stood out that needed to be shouted from the roof top.

At first he had ignored this book. One, it seemed a little expensive. Two, it carried the names of Jack Posobiec, Joshua Lisec and Steven Bannon.

He really didn’t think they would have anything to say that he didn’t already know, just some more of the same rhetoric. He had listened to countless hours of their prattling.

I have a good friend and we agree upon almost everything important, except for one thing, which is at the heart of everything.

The source of our major disagreement is based on a very old problem.

How much of what is going on in the world is intentional, versus how much is accidental.

To be more concrete, is there a cabal of some secret controllers guiding the economy, politics and world events like the pandemic, or is it a matter of chance, an accident of how the world is setup, the behavior of complex systems?

The Expanse

Vikid had been scarred by distraction. Even sleep provided little consolation. The mind had been in turmoil, thoughts like stones thrown into a crusher. A pulverized existence, which was neither happy nor sad, fine sand, baked under a white hot sun, suspended in a dessert storm.

With no bearing, he found it hard to work or connect with others. He poured himself into books, stories in stars far away, searching for some answers. Alas, the solution was not in some neutron star or alien goo. Though many hints were passed along the way.

The Virus

Vikid awoke from a bad dream. He’d been rather straight and writing politically. He preferred the high of alternate realities. A glass of Red. The Sweet Mary Jane. Ket-amine. 5 Dimethyltryptamine.

Neuromancer, he had just unplugged. Surfing cyberspace, intermingling with some higher intelligence.

It occurred to him that he had been waltzing with the demon, deep inside that other dimension. Between the rift that separates reality from imagination.

The demon was capitulation.

Unmoored at Sea

I read a novel recently, Prophet Song by Paul Lynch. An interesting take on the refugee crisis with a twist. It’s based in Ireland and something dystopian happens there. I don’t want to say more because I want you to read it.

I read it without any backstory, no knowledge on the author or what he was trying to achieve. It was an impulse buy at the Airport.

The funny thing is, I came out of the novel concluding the very opposite of what the author, I eventually figured out, was trying to convey.

Boundary Condition

Physics is full of equations. The truth is they don’t tell you much (about the real world) until you set the boundary conditions.

Take the simplest of equations

Y = mX + C

It’s says nothing further than linearity. It is free floating.

It’s only when you actually find and set ‘m’ & ‘C’ that the equation can be used to actually solve anything.

There is a deep philosophical implication to this simple observation. It applies to everything of consequence, every idea that follows a prescribed formula or rules, like Logic, which is the base of all thinking.

Event Horizon

On Portals and Cattle

Some movies can change your life. Event Horizon, a 1997 film, was one of them. It starts off innocently enough, like any other sci-fi, a space ship, a rather quirky crew sent to investigate a research ship that’s gone silent.

Somewhere along the line you realize sci-fi is definitely not what you’re in for, it’s something entirely different.

What’s different leaves you shaking from hours to days but in a way it never leaves you.

There’s a saying, what goes around, comes around.

The people of the subcontinent called it Karma and as much as codified it in their religions.

Newton later mathematized it, giving it a precise physical meaning, Action = Reaction.

The Chinese have a similar concept of Yin and Yang. Though not quite exactly the same it has additional meanings. It captures the ebb and flow of fate, the fact that the seeds of growth and destruction are within themselves.

Pulp Fiction

I used to enjoy clever writing, high IQ stuff. I used to enjoy subtle nuance, breakthroughs in thought, that sudden “aha!” of an unanticipated reveal. I used to enjoy lofty prose and literary excellence. I used to enjoy lots of numbers and squiggles preaching about how the universe began.

Mental Master-bation.

But times change.

There’s something pure in plain talk. Direct engagement and stories that have been told for a thousand years. It’s the reason we can watch Robin Hood again and again though we know the story a hundred times over. It’s the joy of just sitting with your cat who says nothing at all.

Meat Suit

He opened his eye, situated himself and then closed them again.

Slow down, think, slow down, be clear.

Why was he here, what is this meat suit? Its constant urges, desires, wants, niggles. A stream of discomfort plaguing the consciousness.

He tried to clear his mind but it was filled with sound, the necessity of breathing, a pang of hunger, and the pull of duty.

How had he ended up here in this particular situation, a brain half awake, a consciousness disembodied, timeless.

The Capacity to take Pain

It had been a month of highs and lows. Highs with family. Enjoying paradise with your children, their mother, Grand Parents, in a multi-generational harmony is just fabulous. Swimming in pristine waters, befriending turtles, octopi, eating clean fruits plucked moments before and breathing fresh air, has a way to totally reset the system. That’s how my month began.

Then, there was the connection with old family that had been lost for a good 5 years. Misunderstandings and living on opposite sides of the globe had turned us apart. There was some real healing and mending of old wounds, without forcing it. Just spending time with loved ones and allowing nature to do the rest. Being patient with life.

The Book Scout and His Mystical Kingdom

It isn’t kosher to recommend or review a book without reading it. However, that’s what I am going to do.

Like being a scout at a local school trial, you just know when a kids got it. I had that same feeling when I first saw Alcaraz. That boy was going to be a phenomenal Tennis player. Sometimes you just know.

So it goes with this book.

So far, I’ve just read the first story, not even the entire chapter. It starts off with Ian Taylor, the founder of Vitol, the world’s largest commodity trader. It begins with a plane’s plunging descent into Benghazi, where a deal is made that changes history. I thought I was well informed. Guess not. Never heard about this guy, never understood how these things worked.

“Weltinnenraum”

I found this word (within a poem written by Maria Rilke) in a wonderful book called, “Against the Pollution of the I”. Such a beautiful word, so quintessentially Germanic. Directly translated it means, world/inner/space, or the Inner Space of the World. When the whole world is inside you.

The books starts off about a clinically deaf girl who could nonetheless hear, wild… but it only gets better from there. Jacques Lusseyran, the author, was blinded by a freak accident as a child but nevertheless could to see. At the age of 15, this sightless boy led a resistance of 600 people against the Nazi’s from his home in Paris. Eventually he was caught. For the crime, he was tortured for half a year and then sent to a concentration camp. The Gestapo couldn’t get anything out of him. Of the thousands of people sent there, only 30 made it out. This blind bat was one of them.

I’ve always been a sucker for clarity. I got to know how something works. As a kid, I was fascinated by how people made cartoons, so I tried to build a projector to play my own movies. That one was hard. I used cardboard for the box, a torch for a light source, the tube of plastic (or was it bog roll?) and tracing paper wrapped around it, as film. I hadn’t quite worked out the need for lenses yet but I found out soon enough. Alas, I never got the thing working properly but it was a valuable lesson in animation (and also in not taking things for granted).

These would be an examples of a category error and seem reasonable enough from a grammatical sense. It would make sense to any English speaker but… hang on… In what sense can you ask about a number’s marital status? Or the weight in grams of a system of religion.

In an alternate universe, I might have been named Mr. Butter Fingers, because, try as I might, my digits generally have a mind of their own and leave me feeling quite clumsy.

I was born to a world when Michael Jackson was the man. I grew up in the MTv generation. As far as I know, I swallowed it whole and loved every minute of it. You see words and concepts are not stationary things, definitions change over time, they are conceived of differently by different groups, cultures, languages, the level of technology in possession, the state of science, and in fact each mind that contemplates it, has it’s own idiosyncrasies.

But somehow if anything is to be said at all, we have to come to some agreement implicitly or explicitly.

I remember the day I got my first set of glasses and I remember why.

I was 16, on holiday out of boarding school and had just discovered the joys of PC gaming. After many hours of effort, assiduously copying floppy after floppy disk and playing with the cryptic Windows Registry, I got Sim City running. It was a revolution in game playing, a simulator based on building townships into major cities. As a player, you were the fictional Mayor of an undeveloped piece of land, who got to choose where housing projects were erected and where, you had to learn about zoning, supplying utilities, energy, industry, public transportation and much more. I played the game all night, every night on a tiny CRT monitor in the dark. A few weeks of strained eyes later, I noticed the world start to blur slowly, a few months later, I got my first set of spectacles.

In the days before Vikid was the Truth, he read a lot of Popular Science. Books by the likes of Richard Dawkins, Sean Carol, Roger Penrose and many many others. He studied computing and mathematics in order to keep up with what the leading edge of Science was tackling. He read the popular press, periodicals like The New Scientist and the Scientific American, which reported on some of the latest developments and he felt very proud of himself.

He realized his Esperanto skills were not up to the task, so rather than give up in frustration, he used Google Translate. He would translate manually at first but then check against the AI translator. The AI was clearly better but not without its mistakes. So it really was true, it takes two to Tango!

It is a testament that in many traditions congregations prey in a language the don’t really understand. Take for example the Catholics who pray in Latin or the Hindus who pray in Sanskrit, languages majority of their adherents don’t understand.

Quite a few years back I started studying many languages. I devised my own system of learning them and decided to write a book about it. That book lies buried deep within the recesses of my hard-drive and hasn’t seen the light of day for many seasons.

On a recent overnight flight from London, I threw on a film. It was a story about love, tragedy, silliness, fear, abuse, dogma, being the “other”, finding yourself, jealousy, intrigue and many other things. It was a story so well told, using cinematography, sound, music and the power of suggestion, that often you were totally engrossed with your emotions playing the tune of directors bidding. The acting was sublime, there were no actors, just the characters.

I started a book yesterday titled, “Why Read” by Will Self.

I’ve read a few books by him and while I can’t say they are my favorites or that I even recommend them whole heartedly to the uninitiated, I do think he says some very deep things.

The Art of Reading a very fine one. One that requires silence about you and a deep absorption of your being. Things that are not very fashionable these days and for which our modern environment is not easily geared. Whether it is your phone, spouse, children, friends, work colleagues, the next episode of whatever you are watching, there are constant interruptions.

Real Illusions

The New Year had been good to Vikid, The Hero of Truth. The previous year had been a daily battle against the forces of The DOOM. Demon after demon had been confronted, creatures of all shapes and sizes, Goddesses had been met and revered. 2023, on the contrary, so far at least, had been a year of peace.

The previous day, Vikid had met a curious gentleman online, who had survived a plane crash in Hawaii. In the aftermath of the crash the gentlemen had witnessed his own death and the presence of dark entities surrounding him. Cutting a long story short, after surviving the incident and being brought back to life, he had been blessed with such powers as to cross the different dimensions of existence (at will) and converse with entities often considered the purview of Science Fiction, Fantasy or even Horror. Through the power of Divine Love he was able to exorcize these entities from himself and subsequently helped other people do the same.

I had never heard of this guy until today when I saw this interview. Then I put on his his music and found that there’s definitely something here worth exploring.

I love discovering new music.

Find below a recent interview about what happened to him after January 6th. Here are a few fascinating points to consider while listening:

A man is falsely accused. (An age old story, see Shawshank Redemption)
Everyone and his dog abandons him. (Would you? Be honest.)
The guy is extremely clear in his thinking but is purposely couching his words with good reason. (Can you see the reason?)
To allow the conversation to progress one must be able to “read between the lines”.
The interviewers do a good job but at the fundamental point, they refuse to understand what he is saying. (Do you recognize th3 transition? How the dynamic changes?)
Because that would upend everything they believe in. This is the Wall. To see the truth you have to be willing to blast past it. (Can you? It’s clear the interviewers cannot.)
The interview gets more interesting the longer it goes on. Be patient. The conversation starts with facts (dry) and then moves on the implications (crucial). (Do you have the patience or does time press you hard?)
You see a person swallow a black pill, digest it, lament what happened and grow stronger from the experience.
You see the consequences of being a true hero…
It’s not flashy, no glory and admiration, it’s strips you of everything inessential and exposes you to a harsh reality, which is painful but ultimately you are no longer living a lie. (Are you ready to accept that?)

There will be times in your life when you question yours and everyone else’s sanity.

Vikid had decided to go camping in The Peninsula of Musandum. It wasn’t a crazy distance from home, just a 5.5 hr drive to a beach nestled between mountain peaks. The place was called Secret Beach.

In 25 years he had never made it there. It was like a force field. The first time he tried, he hadn’t brought his passport along with him. The Immigration Officer wasn’t happy obviously and at midnight he and his whole troop had to turn around and go home in shame. Clever, very clever.

Vikid had read a thousand books, which got him thinking quite a lot. So much so, that he had got himself confused. In fact he had been told by a close friend that so much data would drive a man crazy. He had dismissed this at the time but now he was beginning to see the wisdom of the warning. Perhaps the mind was like a hard disk or a processor that could be over clocked and filled to the brim. Now the overworked machine was malfunctioning, crashing at inopportune moments. Worse, Vikid was suspecting erroneous results, a simulated car crash in high definition and slow motion. A Guy Ritchie production, Lock Stock Lunacy, Dolby 3D Surround Sound, for which he had front row seats in a theatre made for one.

The Many Faces of Vikid

Vikid had been writing profusely, weeks upon weeks, the words just flowed but finally was he running out of material?

He had spent a considerable amount of time learning about Near Death Experiences (NDE’s). It was a topic worth expressing and exploring but first he wanted to have a few words on God.

The night before was glorious 3-0 for his team at the World Cup. The beer tasted good and the mood was better. Everyone was laughing and having a blast.

For a long long time Vikid read hard science almost exclusively. He delved primarily in Math & Physics as he was interested in uncovering the truth about the world and how it operated.

It started innocently enough.

The Enlightenment was a period in which Natural Philosophy matured into Scientific Methodology through the union of imagination and the cold reality of experimentation.

Imagination was infinite but prone to all manner of errors, the true route could be chartered by tempering it’s power by continuous testing against reality.

That’s what Vikid was thinking on the way to a wedding.

He had read the literature which actually correlated IQ to inheritance. Smart parents led to smart children, just as a merger between two tall people leads to equally lengthy kids. Cats also beget more cats, dogs to dogs, etc…

The wedding was a bit of a dull event set against a beautiful backdrop, picture perfect, on a beach under a golden sunset. Smart people, lovely location, another wedding following a similar pattern. Wows made, a jovial but traditional grooms speech, flowers and lackluster canapés. Couldn’t be anymore cliché.

There wasn’t a day that passed without a celebrity coming out and claiming they had lost their identity. They changed their name if they were famous enough, Prince had become a Symbol but he was one of the early ones. Now Kanye had become Ye. The funniest was Puff Daddy who became P Diddy, then Puffy, then Diddy, now LOVE AKA Brother Love. What kind of Brothers was he loving and how? Vikid didn’t want to speculate.

As he started to relax, the earth started rumbling, groaning and pitching. The most enormous creature came into view. It was the most hideous thing he had ever seen. Razor sharp teeth, where it’s head began and ended he could not see. It was the texture of wood and stone, half tree, half worm, with tentacles for horns and dozens of limbs.

Even Superheroes have children and on this morning Vikid was taking them to school. The city had an magnificent orange glow, roads were calm and smooth. Leaves on trees rustled in a gentle breeze.

The kids were playing in the car and there was a general sense of joy.

Modern transport is a truly fascinating thing. First you have the pantomime of safety concerns at the departure airport and then within a few hours you are zapped into a different world.

In thirst he went to pour himself a glass of water but before he could drink it, the whole glass turned into a block of ice, the room went into a raging fire and out emerged a Demon of Graphite, blue flames everywhere, horrible laughter piercing through the air.

Philosophers time immemorial have distrusted the infinite as they made a huge error trying to tame her with the finite.

“This is a hard problem to see”, that’s what Vikid was contemplating at 3am in the morning. His cat, BlackBerry, had woken him up cause she wanted to go out on the prowl and had to be let out.

While she hunted mice, Vikid wondered about lies. Lies people told themselves, lies Vikid told himself and while that was going on, a beautiful Angel made a most glorious appearance. She sat on throne half python, half shard, dark as coal against her skin like alabaster porcelain. Her gaze so deep, so penetrating, Vikid just sat in awe, unable to speak.

Tatey Tate, Whitty Titty

Batman had The Bat-Mobile, while Vikid had an Armchair. Actually it was more like a recliner that was perfect to work, read or sleep in. For Vikid, work primarily resided in thinking and dreaming.

He had recently dreamt of a particularly cruel being, The Goblin of Pandemic & Famine. His fellow demons liked to call him Gopf. A cute little name for a viscous Grimm Reaper.

Gopf had an illustrious past and had ravaged every society that ever lived but over the last century while he hibernated, civilization was having their fill.

Vikid sat back in his favorite armchair. Being who he was, his mind turned back to the Nature of Proof. It was a key to his powers that he had never really understood.

These days when people thought about Proof they usually first turned to Mathematics.

Math was based at its core on two things. Symbols and “Rules to manipulate Symbols”. This was called formalism.

The simplest rules were called Axioms, which using symbols, showed the type of manipulations that were allowed.

There are some benefits to waking up. When you read (this includes, watch, listen and hear) as much as I have, I think it’s an inevitable side effect. When you’ve inhabited thousands of minds, you just see through the fog with laser like vision. It’s like being the one eyed man in the land of the blind. Awesome really.

And I think I have awoken. (The opposite of going “woke” incidentally). For I see a lot of awakened masters and realize they are still in infancy. It’s a bit of a hobby for me. I find some enlightened guru (usually with a book and an unhealthily large following), find them on zoom. Speak with them, sometimes for an hour, some times for weeks. Realize they are morons, then rinse and repeat. Reading book, whether it is on finance or the state of contemporary cricket is the same thing. Meeting a friend. Same thing.

Last year I completed a 20 day water fast. The lessons I learned from that experience were life changing. (Apart from the fact my life didn’t change at all, ha ha!).

The Game of Thrones is a essentially a story about the lengths, depths and depravities people will go to, to seek power and to attain ultimate dominion.

The Buzz

As a one time golfing enthusiast it always interested me that amongst everything the game is about, I really never cared for the score.

For me it was always all about the Drive and putting could be left for others who cared about the numbers, and true to form, my results showed it. I had a massive drive and a massive score to boot!

That feeling, early in the morning, as the sun rises and the air is still fresh and cool, when you strike the ball just right, with a fully wound and graceful swing, is hard to beat. It’s worth about 10 balls in the lake!

Chameleons

I have been everything from a card carrying Communist (without the card) to an Anarcocapitalist (cards not included) and almost all the nuances in between. I have held such beliefs both strongly and weakly, sometimes with great enthusiasm and at others with out much care in the world.

I have lived as a pauper student, without money for food (I spent it on other pleasures!) and I have lived in the world of business, operating in economies ranging from advanced-structured to ones a little more laissez-faire, where rules & ethics are looked at more like nice-to-have accessories, than anything that needs to be followed. What’s more I have read a fair amount of history and academic analysis from a number of different points of view and motivations.

It is interesting being a contrarian.

Why is it that I am always opposed or at best orthogonal to everyone around me?

Yesterday, I had a pleasant evening out watching sports with friends. Not something I am against. I have always enjoyed Sport, Friends and Beer. A Winning Combination!

What was interesting for me, after trying to avoid politics for a good hour, is that we couldn’t avoid politics!

It started off with the now, almost religious fervor given to any discussion around the Corona Virus. I would be quite happy to never discuss the subject again. It’s deftly boring. Do masks work or not? (You may guess where I stand on that one.) If travel should be restricted, if it the virus was engineered, how dangerous it is, how deaths are counted, should kids go to school, etc… etc… everyone has an opinion on what should be plain facts.

Chitty Chitty… Bang! Bang!

A lot has been said about computation, Turing, Godel and Von Neumann got most of the classical stuff discovered and done by in the 20th Century. A little after that things were extended into the Quantum Realm and now, currently, a race is being run to see who can build the first viable Quantum Machine.

I have studied a lot of this stuff, mostly as an interested party and amateur enthusiast, but also as a want to be software engineer, with my mathematical hat on. I have no PhD and little first hand practical experience but I’ve done a lot of reading around people who have.

Most people like Spotify, but Spotify irritated me once and wasn’t available here for a long time. Furthermore, nothing makes me rile more than following the crowd. The Vikid Principles is a book I wanted to write for several years but for one reason or the other the idea wouldn’t solidify over something substantial. That is until now. The mind is a machine that likes to over complicate everything and my mind has been on hyper-drive for several years now.

Love

I fell in love with music as a child. Some of my earliest memories are of me being almost completely enraptured in a trance listening to the Ragas of Indian Classical Music and the emanations of Deep Purple. For this I have to thank my uncle who had the interest to pursue the best India had to offer and for having these special metallic tapes, which produced such a high fidelity sound that the music completely filled and entered the space around you. I also have to thank my father for buying the best hi-fi systems available in the early 80’s, which played these special tapes and allowed the Ragas to shine in all their magnificence.

Matter & Math

We all learned in School that matter comes in 3 states, Solid, Liquid & Gas. That’s what most people believe and if you studied a little bit more, in chemistry (which was always a mystery to me), we learned about chemical bonds such as the ionic and covalent bonding schemes. These schemes and theories were meant to explain the world we see around us.

Furthermore you learned about some eternal truths such as 2 + 2 = 4 and that is supposed to never ever change, even in different universes that we can imagine, with different etheric alien races. These are called Platonic Truths and come under the rubric of Mathematics.

Break Fast

Cannes

We went to Cannes this afternoon. Yeah, Cannes of the Film Festival! I was totally excited and the city didn’t disappoint. Sitting on the French Riviera, watching the chic whilst sipping sparkling water, sure beats having it in my office.

Aviation

And then I hung out in Cannes Airport behind the scenes in an airplane hanger with a bunch of French aviation geeks. It’s a different world I had a very little idea about.

Jexi

The adventure began at 3 am, by 6.30 I was in the airport. Immigration was a breeze, we were through everything and in the lounge no more than 25 mins later.

The plane was practically empty and as we took off, I took a chance with a goofy sounding movie called Jexi. It’s about a nerdy phone addicted dude who is a total loser. One day his phone breaks and he has to get a new one. Unbeknownst to him, it has a very advanced form of AI. From that point on it’s pure comedy! I laughed so loud, on so many occasions, I had people in the plane giving me that look. You know that look!

Doubts

It’s day 17 and doubts again start to circle my mind. **I was up at 3 am this morning.**It’s getting earlier and earlier. I tried to deal with the ant infestation that seems to be attacking my room and then meditated for about 30 mins. I felt distracted and couldn’t go on.

Then doubts kept rising in my mind. 4 days more, can I do it? Going on an adventure to a place world famous for its food and I can’t have any? I kept dreaming about different foods and how they taste, how they would be so scrumptious etc… needless to say this was all just going on in my mind.

Adventure

I am going on an adventure soon, a surprise location to be revealed later, and as with the times, I had to get a covid test this morning.

Like true superheroes, we were wearing masks. Turns out I have passed with flying colors and with any luck I should be on my way in the next 48 hrs.

Introduction

For those of you new here, I have been on a water fast, supplemented by coconut water for the last 15 days. I consume about a litre of fresh or raw coconut water between the late afternoon to evening. I do light cardio & weights on most days. In addition to this, I meditate 2 or 3 times a day. Energy & Emanations

14 days have past without food and I feel better for it. Who would have thought?

My energy is still great. I was up at 3 am this morning. After trying to force myself to sleep unsuccessfully, I finally got out of bed at 4am. I broke another rule (what are rules for?) and watched two fabulous interviews on ConsciousTV and Buddha at the Gas Pump. Both are wonderful channels that explore spirituality with authenticity. Try them out!

Trinity

Bowels

What can I say, the fasting has become so normal now that it doesn’t require or consume much thought and though as a reader you may not want to hear this, I have to talk a little about bowel movements. One day, you may actually attempt a similar feat and it would be prudent for me to give you an accurate picture.

Firstly, at the beginning stages, if you’ve followed so far (see day 1), you will know that I took some Magnesium Citrate and spent the night in the bathroom, not hilarious, that helped clear most of the junk at the outset.

Novelty

So, there were some interesting developments yesterday in another wise mundane day. Firstly, I have noticed that the fact that I have eaten anything in 11 days, aside from water and a little coconut water, has become something of a total ordinary affair. Neither my mind, my body or my heart have any complaint and even the novelty of it has worn away. I wonder how long this state of affairs is going to last? Will I just coast the rest of the way or is there something in store for me, a secret surprise!

On Curves

Well we’ve reached the half way point, an inflection and now the real question is whether my progress will be parabolic or exponential, as I think anything linear is out of the question. Am I a Tom, Billy or Sean?

Feeling Chinese

In terms of developments there is not much to report. I’m losing weight steadily, for the most part, hunger doesn’t play a big role, though I do miss the rituals of food. These days when I am upset or out of sorts, I can’t go to my usual bag of insanely spicy corn crisps, so yum, or sneak down to the local Chinese and gorge on the savory delights.

Breaking Rules

So I’ve broken a rule. Why not? This is my fast and I do as I please, as circumstances warrant…

A few days ago I was clearing out an old todo list buried in the recesses of my phone. This has been part of my routine the last few days, to get old cruft either done or deleted and I came across a single name “Jim Dreaver”.

I couldn’t remember it meaning anything and I was about to dismiss the task, permanently wiping it from my memories when I decide to do a quick lookup.

So a Coconut met a coconut… and it was good!

Pure nectar, in fact nothing tastes so good. For the last few months I have been buying this amazing raw coconut water from Thailand. Raw as in, unpasteurized, without heat treatment.

Then it occurred to me, why not just buy the real thing? I mean it’s not that expensive here.

Now let’s do the calculations:

1 bottle of Raw Coconut Water costs $5.7 at 500ml = $11.4 / ltr
1 Real Coconut costs $1.08 at approximately 250ml = $4.4 / ltr

To tell you the truth I never thought I’d get here. It feels wonderful and I feel great. There’s something about the body that switches gears when you stop eating. Firstly, I would like to dissuade you of the myth of “Starvation Mode” and pictures of people in concentration camps or kids with distended bellies. Not that it doesn’t happen, but that it doesn’t happen in the first 7 days. I am living proof.

This fasting is a funny thing. You can feel like your cruising one minute and feel like your crashing the next. The main thing is to learn how to ride the waves.

For example, this morning I went for another Vikid Freestyle Walk. 45-50 mins. I did everything, handstands, duck walk, near walk, monkey jumps, pseudo-sprints, press ups, dips, yadi yada…

I felt pretty good when I got home, I’d say like 60% but before I got in the shower I crashed to about 15%. I guessed I just needed a quick rest so I lay down on the floor Shavasana style and focused on my heart beat (high) and breathing (normal). Within 3 minutes I was fine and have been fine ever since.

It’s day 5 and I feel like I’m cruising . Last night I went for a short cycle maybe 8 km and this morning I discovered a new way of walking. It’s called The Vikid Freestyle. It really is surprising that I feel like going out and working out. I am putting no pressure on myself to do this and I’m not over exerting myself either. My energy is better while fasting, go figure 🧐.

Yesterday, coming close to the evening, I had my first thoughts of giving up. I have been expecting this and I am sure there are going to be other challenging days. The desire to give up was less to do with hunger. It was more to do with boredom, of being deprived of the demonic lust, the need to gorge and to consume.

I am not at a retreat being pampered and massaged. I have have no guru looking after me and no group to commiserate with. Not that I want it. Nor do I have any need to whine but I do have to work normal days, I have real world problems and we are in a grueling year, all the more reason to quit. I was ogling potato chips still lying on the bedroom table, the chilly sauce in my fridge, I was planning on sneaking in a little sweet or perhaps a sugar free gum. How could that do any harm? No one would know right?

Summary First…

I am going strong but it’s getting deep. Let’s start in the middle and go reverse to the beginning and end up at the end or wherever… Invert and twist the circle, if you know what I mean.

This morning I woke up at 6 am without an alarm and it’s been months and months since I have naturally felt like meditating but today I did.

I sat down cross legged on a comfortable sofa, adjusted my posture and just allowed things to be. No special attention on breathing, not trying to remove thoughts, only allowing things to be… and again awesomeness happened. I went very deep for about 40 mins. No alarms, bells or whistles. No agenda when to come out. Thoughts and images 30 years old appeared. I just let them be, I contemplated how they made me feel and where necessary forgave myself for what I did.

So last night I went out to a really cute Mexican restaurant with the hosts, a couple with two kids the same age as ours. They have had a rotten time with the lockdown. It’s hard to fathom how bad the lockdowns have destroyed people’s lives. It does really make me question what we are doing as a society and what we can do better.

They were kind enough to offer not eating but the restaurant wouldn’t have it. New Covid rules, got to order food if you want a drink, makes sense right? So we got a bowl of Guacamole that smelt insanely fresh and I watched them nibble at it while sipping cocktails all night long. No issues, I felt rock solid and it was great to be out with friends. So, its only been two days but you don’t need to lose your social life while fasting. This may change 😂.

Hello Dear Friends!

So the fast began just over 24 hrs ago and yesterday, in the evening, I took this tangerine potion just to help things along.

That’s Magnesium Citrate and works well for relaxing your bowels. The only problem being that I miscalculated my timings (taking it at 6pm) and ended up on the shitter all night. Lord help me. So first things first, I had practically no sleep as I was out of bed every half hour for a bathroom run. If any of you want to try this technique out then please write to me personally and I can give you some tips, first one being, take it early!

On Becoming a Hero

I’ve read two amazing books this year (Can’t Hurt Me and The Art of Resilience ) that have convinced me to attempt something heroic. Ah the dreams to become a hero, every child to have ever lived has had these dreams.

My first dreams were of Lord Krishna. A character you should explore no matter what your religion or belief system. He is a God like no other and The Bhagvat Gita a book like no other. The Mahabharata, so complex and deep, a vision of immense clarity. But by the age of 4 or 5 I had moved on to Superman. I donned on the famous red and blue leotard and zoomed all around my neighborhood. Delightful!

Losing Weight

Today, I read Allen Carrs’ Book, Lose Weight Now and to put it mildly, it was extremely good.

I love his style of writing, so simple, so direct, so true.

But as usual, we must start at the beginning…

Several years ago, now coming to near 20, I had read another title by this author, (subscribers are welcome to guess which 😉), and as a result, it changed my life and that of many another I have known.

The Colonized Mind

During a family gathering many years ago, when I was a young man, my uncle said something to me that struck me as rather noteworthy and possibly quite observant.

He jokingly called me a, “Coconut”.

To which I enquired the meaning, feeling rather confused.

“Ah!”, he said, “You are white on the inside with a hard brown exterior shell!”

Of course I instantly ‘knew’ what he meant by that. After all I had been sent to boarding school in England as a young Indian boy, aged 8 and stayed there till after finishing University, getting a job in London and finally being naturalized as a British Citizen. In the process, I had metaphorized from a freshly roasted coco bean into a semi-mature coconut.

Opposite Thinking
