Losing Weight

From Snakes to Coconuts

Today, I read Allen Carrs’ Book, Lose Weight Now and to put it mildly, it was extremely good.

I love his style of writing, so simple, so direct, so true.

But as usual, we must start at the beginning…

Several years ago, now coming to near 20, I had read another title by this author, (subscribers are welcome to guess which 😉), and as a result, it changed my life and that of many another I have known.

(I can be a good salesman when it need be)

Mr. Carr hit on a formula and made it work amazingly. Writing several books and opening centers around the world. It must have been something amazing to have such a positive effect on so many people. Sadly Allen is no more, having passed away with the disease he helped so many people avoid.

This article is in dedication to this great man.

I often try to craft my musings, to write with some flare and whit, you know, to keep the reader interested, stuck on the page, glued to my ramblings.  But today, I think that I am going to give that a pass and just say something important as simply as I can about a problem I have faced for quite a large part of my life.

And that is the question of weight.

Frankly, I have been way overweight for the major part of my adult life.

As an adolescent, it was less of a problem I remember. Mainly due the fact that I was a voracious sportsman. Rugby, football, water polo, tennis, running, swimming, climbing, gymnastics, etc… etc…, day in and day out, for hours at a time, meant there really was no problem, whatever I happened to eat.

That kind of stopped when I got my first job (behind a desk) and it has plagued me ever since.

To save you, we can fast forward approximately 2 decades and within them, I permit you to flagrantly imagine my every indulgence, that allowed a slim, athletic man to grow by more 40kgs (88lbs) and become a bit of a slob. A wonder to behold much less to participate in, oh yes, I was there every step of the way with a very unhealthy relationship to food (and drink).

Then out of the blue, something very cool happened. Last year was amazing, I had a monumental victory. Then this year happened, I but all, threw it away.

This is my story.

Last year, I decided to go on a fast for three days for no more a reason than something in my intuition telling me to do so. I subsequently watched a few videos by Cole Robinson on his method, The Snake Diet. These videos were, hand on heart (and to the god I believe in), hilarious! Not just hilarious but quite convincing and inspiring too. I took on his protocol and went on the diet for 72 hrs.

What happened next is not short of miraculous. Yes, I lost a rather large amount of weight, 3kgs (6lbs) or more if memory serves me, but that wasn’t the miracle. The real miracle is that I lost my addiction to food, especially junk food. It’s as if a lifetime of food abuse and addiction was absolved and I was freed. It was a coming to Jesus moment.

And, I didn’t take that freedom for granted either. I put myself to the task, and within 8 months I lost 20kg (44lbs). I started to work out as well. I felt my mood lighten, my body tighten and happiness entered back into my life like it hadn’t in years. Everyone around me noticed it and I felt great.

With the Mt. Everest in my life conquered, I felt truly quite satisfied. Mission Accomplished.

Well, that is, until it wasn’t…

I am not sure what came over me but around October last year (2019), I started feeling like something was wrong. Couldn’t put my finger on it, but something was definitely wrong. I started to compensate for that feeling with food (and drink).

Then Covid hit us all, and something was most definitely wrong. Business was beyond stress full and I really started to eat crap again to compensate. With the crap, my blood clogged and my mind fogged. That ability to bounce out of bed in the morning and go for a run or cycle morphed into the ability to get out bed and chug 3 to 4 espressos just to stay wake. Within a few weeks, I was a wreck, adrenals shot with caffeine and my weight started a precipitous climb.

Mt. Everest here I came with a new found boldness. Nothing like a good rebound!

I tried to fast again to stimulate the magic but for some reason I just couldn’t. Depression, especially the type created by foods and drugs have an intelligence of their own. They psychologically take over you. You feel helpless, and I did. I couldn’t fast, not even for a day. It was nothing physical, it was a loss of mind and spirit. Perhaps I had forsaken Jesus and was being punished.  I was starting to get really worried.

Which brings me to the power of now, to Eckhart Tolle and to Allen’s book. I read it today and it did for me, what it did 20 years ago. I feel reset. I could tell you all about the book and what it says, perhaps I will someday but this is not the time. My humble apologies.

For now, however, if you do have a problem with food, if you are overweight and really don’t know what to do about it, if you’ve tried every diet out there and feel tired, I really recommend this book.

And that’s it!

Lot of Love,

The Vikid Truth.
