The Hum
Notes on the Electrical Ocean and it Effects

Silence is wonderful. Don’t you think?
I think that’s why we watch TV, it’s why we listen to podcasts. It’s why we read books.
Its also why we listen to music.
Because the world is noisy.
I first truly started to understand this after spending couple of weeks in Hawaii almost 10 years go. Then getting a gentle reminder to the fact here and there along the way.
The noise I am talking about isn’t exactly to do with sound. More accurately, it’s to do with a certain kind of vibration. Specifically the hum generated by electrical cables & equipment.
That time in Hawaii, I stayed in an old broken down bus in the middle of an exotic garden on top of a volcanic field. The place was off-grid with no local power supply. The interiors had been redone, there was a comfortable single bed inside, peach colored chiffon curtains, a chest of drawers and not much else. I slept like a baby. I woke up with the Sun, light and free, without a care in the world.
What was truly transformative was the silence. The lack of hum. Though I didn’t realize it at the time. What I did notice was the sudden peace that descended upon my very being.
Later, as re-entered ‘society’ the hum wrapped me with the scream of a tornado. Dorothy was sucked out of Kansas and sent to the 21st Century.
And I understood why human beings are going insane.
But there is a funny thing about realizations, they can be fleeting. You see something in a moment of clarity. You are stunned but soon hit by the freight train called ‘life’ and you go amnesiac. The core registers the truth, but the surface level easily forgets it. The transcendental cannot be held.
You go back to ‘normal’, as life demands.

This has happened to me several times. For example, few years ago I went on a 20 day fast. No food for 20 days, only water, and I never felt better. I had more energy on day 20 than on day 1. I had the bounce of an 8 year old. I was skipping while walking, whistling joyful tunes. Every unhealthy relationship with food was exposed and I could clearly see the solution to my life long problems with eating. I understood the lies we have been fed about nutrition and what the body actually needs. I understood how addiction works.
Then a couple of months later, I had forgotten it all.
Today, we are integrating digital electronics into every facet of our lives. Our houses are wired with kilometers of cable, humming. There is one along every footpath, along every road, buzzing. For those of us who live in cities, we are bathed 24/7 in an electrical ocean, invisible to gross senses. Yet it exists and profoundly affects us.
Strobe Lights in your consciousness.

As society gets madder (you are witness to it), the daily riots, the pink hair, the nose rings, the rage, the accusations, the retaliation, the conspiracies, to explain it all… I think we are missing the key ingredient.
It is THE HUM.
The hum drives people insane and they don’t know it, it is all around them and they can’t hear it. It makes them highly susceptible.
What’s more, the airwaves are now congested with signals on every wave length.

Wifi is a great but unlike acoustic signals, which are smooth sinusoidals, wifi is a jagged, serrated tooth, cutting away our very sanity.
5G. Let’s not go there… Gigahertz of directed (non-ionizing) radiation aimed at your cranium. While not directly dangerous, it’s enough to rattle a few screws loose.
It’s noise, every cubic centimeter of your environment. Body penetrating noise.
It’s a Chinese* torture you’re not aware of.
It’s not the only reason of course. Madness has spread in every age and for many reasons but I suspect this is one of the root causes in our one.
And that’s,
The Vikid Truth
* Despite its name, Chinese water torture is not Chinese in origin. It was first documented by Italian jurist Hippolytus de Marsiliis in Bologna during the late 15th or early 16th century. The method involves slowly dripping cold water onto a restrained victim’s forehead, causing psychological torment rather than physical pain. The term “Chinese” was likely added to give the method an air of “ominous mystery”.
