Thug Life: Shouting from the Roof Tops

On Being Irritating and Juicy Red Steaks

· 5 min read · Originally on Substack

I was born to a world when Michael Jackson was the man. I grew up in the MTv generation. As far as I know, I swallowed it whole and loved every minute of it. Tupac was my all time hero and I still remember spending an idyllic summer in the New England Countryside, lush trees and perfect lawns, when he was shot and taken down.

In those days, I filtered the world through the lyrics of Rap and the beats of Hiphop. It was all about “keeping it real” and drinking “Hennessy”, though I had very little experience in either.

Not that everything was perfect. I was a rather timid boy and made new friends with difficulty. I was generally scared of talking to girls and my father thought my behavior was “snobbish” because I wouldn’t approach other kids at the club.

It wasn’t that. I was just a socially awkward kid.

Anyway autobiography aside, I’m sure your not that interested, I am trying to get to a point.

The point was the first rude awakening which happened during my first job and is linked with the early Internet.

I started working for the government and my boss at the time, a lovely man, refused to give me work. Not that it bothered me too much, I didn’t want to work either (a situation that has never changed).

It was a time when getting a good internet connection was fairly difficult, the dial-up at home was atrocious. However at work we had broadband and due to my workless situation at the office, I had prime real estate to explore the nascent electronic world, wherein I discovered the underground subculture of far left politics.

Knowing not much more than Tupac and MJ, I was shocked and got totally absorbed. I spent days on end reading everything available, I polished off everything written by Noam Chomsky, Howard Zinn and some much more radical thinkers, names that elude me now. I utilized the industrial style printers at the office by coming in earlier that the rest of the staff. By the time they got into the office, they just saw me reading huge documents. Nobody ever asked me what I was reading or what I was doing. For nearly two years I was left to my own devices, take that for efficient Government!

If you every wondered where your taxes go, be under no illusion, that’s what’s happening. Cause that’s what I saw, a huge number of people doing almost nothing and of the people who did work hard, well, let’s just say they worked very hard at doing the counter productive. Like putting up new traffic signs, narrowing roads, canceling Parking spaces, buying busses too big for the roads they would be used on and other such things.

Anyways, I was so astonished by the new “knowledge” that was gaining that I started emailing everyone I know, 10 times a days, with the articles I was reading.

The underlying message was “Wake up!”, “Do you know what happened in Honduras during the 60’s?”, “What about the suppression of the working class?”, “Don’t you care that the climate is burning?”, blah blah blah…

I didn’t have the wherewithal to understand that first and foremost, I was the one being propagandized. That I was the one with only one side of the story in his hands.

Now that I know better, I have much more sympathy for the blue haired wackos terrorizing everyone with their rainbow colored flags. It is easy to lead your self astray, especially if there is a whole societal apparatus designed to do just that. Back in our day, the schools and university professors at least left you alone. These days these institutions are commandeered by the already propagandized. It’s a vicious cycle as inescapable as the poverty trap.

At some point around 2013, the entire enterprise had me disillusioned, the inconsistencies, the darn outright contradictions in their positions, had got me all in a twist. I now lived in the real world and had a real workforce of a few hundred people to lead. I had to find real jobs in the real world and execute them. Theory just wasn’t cutting it in this environment. I had to change unwillingly.

What didn’t change, not much at all, was my need to shout out what I’ve learned from the Roof Top. I still messaged people, sometimes 20 times a day with articles and videos but this time with my new learnings.

Unsurprisingly, not many listened then, and not many listen now. People just get irritated. So I created a Substack and these days, I just write predominately into the ether. It has the same cathartic effect with many less negatives.

I don’t advertise my writing. No one is going to really listen anyway, whatever I write about is already written. Thousands of articles, millions of hours on YouTube (better is Rumble, Odysee or Bitchute). It’s all just a click away.

The problem of the modern age is not information or it’s evil twin, disinformation. The problem is the engagement (or lack of) of people who have already made up their minds up, or in far greater numbers, people who have no effective mind of their own… their already consumed and integrated into the Borg. Their spines are already connected to the Matrix and if briefly disconnected, they will readily sell their friends just to taste that juicy red steak.

Oh, yeah, I get tempted too, if I could go back to those good old days,
