Hunt for the Wilder people
Directed by Taika Waititi
Starring: Sam Niel, Julian Dennison, Rima Te Wiata
5 StarsWhat a wonderful movie! There should be more like this. It is a great piece of story telling with a score to match and real uncontrived heartfelt acting.
This movie really reminded me of a Wes Anderson movie. It has the style, the filters and the inuendo that reminds you of Steve Zizou or The Darjeeling Express. Sam Niel in this movie fits the Bill Murray character, only he didn't feel tried or cliche and makes his character his own.
And no, I really have no intention of telling you what this movie is about, or even writing that much about it. You have no reason to know, just watch it and be happy you had someone to guide you there.
What I can tell you is that this movie is funny and lighthearted. It leaves you feeling happy, happy that art can still be fun, that it can say so much with being too serious and that it can make you appreciate the good things in life.
Hunt for the Wilderpeople is unconventionally set in the New Zealand bush, which is fresh to watch and leaves you feeling like you've just taken a cool morning walk.
So go on, take that walk and join the Wilderpeople.
