Despite the fact that the island was outside the Italian borders, the Italian government Feared that the trade activities occurring on the island will not pay taxes to the state. In 2020 a beautiful film about the Island appeared, The incredible story about the Island of the Roses, which won several awards at Italy's two major film competitions. The film is available on Netflix in Italian with subtitles in English and several other languages.
